Materials for a home that goes weeks without airing
With the shutters down and the sea close by, moisture in the air stays indoors. For bathrooms and kitchens we suggest large-format porcelain tiles with few grout lines, and showers without frames or corners where water can sit. On kitchen units we check the edges and plinths, which is where they swell first. If you would like a wooden floor, we look at which product makes sense and in which rooms.
Plumbing and electrics you can switch off and leave
Leaving with peace of mind comes down to small things. A main stopcock within reach rather than behind a cupboard, separate isolation valves for the washing machine, dishwasher and water heater, and a consumer unit with separate, labelled circuits, so you can leave only the fridge running, or whatever you choose. We plan this when defining the plumbing and electrics, with a registered installer where required.
A stain when you come back? Find the cause first
Painting over it only hides it until next summer. We first look at where it comes from: condensation from lack of ventilation, a leak in your own pipes or a neighbour’s, a shower joint, a terrace. If the source is the façade or the roof, we will tell you, as that is a matter for the owners’ community. Depending on what needs opening up or renewing, it is worth asking Cambrils Town Council whether the work falls under a prior notice (comunicació prèvia) or a minor works licence.

Which materials cope best in a home that is shut up for much of the year?
Those that do not absorb water and have few joints: porcelain tiles on bathroom and kitchen floors and walls, and units with well-sealed edges. Wood and laminate are more sensitive to changes in humidity; if you like them, we compare the specific product and the room. No material replaces airing the home whenever you can.
Can the plumbing and electrics be set up so we can turn off water and power when we leave?
Yes. A renovation can include an accessible main stopcock, isolation valves for each room and a consumer unit with separate circuits, so you can switch off everything except what you want left on, such as the fridge. It needs deciding before tiling and closing up walls, because it affects pipe and cable routes.
Do you travel as far as Cambrils?

It is the furthest point of our service area along the coast, so larger jobs fit best: a bathroom and kitchen together, or the whole home.
