First, understand what is already there
Rubí’s first residential estates, such as Castellnou, appeared in the 1960s with small houses or “xalets”, according to the Town Council. A house of that age may have a consumer unit with circuits added over time, pipes in different materials and stopcocks nobody can identify. During the visit we trace the routes from the consumer unit and the water inlet to see what feeds each part of the house.
One approach to floors and finishes
In a house that started small and kept growing, two different floor finishes separated by a step often show where the original part ended. Levelling them depends on the height difference, what lies underneath and which doors and windows are affected; sometimes the floor is levelled, sometimes a well-made step is the better answer. What ties a home together most is the same flooring, the same skirting and matching doors throughout, with bathrooms renewed to a shared standard even if they are done at different times.
Plan the work so nothing is opened twice
If electrics and plumbing need renewing, they are done together and before floors and walls, so everything is opened up only once. The same applies to a flat in the Centre or Les Torres neighbourhoods that has been updated piecemeal. On paperwork, Rubí Town Council’s online office lists a minor works notice for dwellings (“assabentat”) and a separate prior notification for building work; it is worth checking which applies to your project.

Can floors at different heights be levelled?
Often yes, but it depends on the height difference and what lies beneath each floor. A small difference can be made up by building up the lower side or taking up the higher floor to bring it down; a large one affects doors, windows and stairs, and a comfortable step is usually the more sensible answer. We measure it during the visit.
Where do I start if each part of the house dates from a different period?
Start with the plumbing and electrics, not the finishes. Knowing which consumer unit, pipes and drains serve each area lets you decide what to renew; then you settle on one approach to floors, walls and joinery, and finally the work is organised area by area.
Do you travel to Rubí?
Yes, when the project justifies it. We travel from Vilafranca del Penedès, so in Rubí it makes more sense for work covering the whole home or several rooms, which is usually what a house built in stages needs.
