Steps, doorways and floors you notice every day
Most houses in Cunit that are lived in all year are single-storey, and there the trouble is the step at the front door or the raised threshold between the kitchen and the utility area. Replacing the floor is a chance to even out changes in level and choose a finish that grips when wet; in the bathroom, a level-access shower takes out the last step. Widening a doorway means opening up the partition and fitting a new frame; if the wall is load-bearing, that needs looking at separately.
A bedroom and bathroom downstairs
If yours is one of the two-storey houses and the bedrooms are upstairs, the first question is whether daily life can fit on the ground floor. Sometimes a room off the lounge would work as a bedroom, and a cloakroom or utility room nearby could become a full bathroom. It depends on where the water supply and waste pipes run. Upstairs can stay as it is for guests.
Light, sockets and when the work can happen
While walls are open, it makes sense to set sockets at a comfortable height, add switches by the bed and improve the lighting in the hallway and bathroom. If the house is your parents’, it helps to have them at the visit: they know what they struggle with. Cunit Town Council applies different procedures depending on whether the layout changes and says building work is not allowed in August, so it is worth confirming with the council before setting dates.

Can you create a bedroom and bathroom on the ground floor?
Often yes, and the bathroom usually decides it. The bedroom tends to be the easy part; a bathroom needs its waste pipe to reach the existing drain with enough fall. We check this during the visit, with the pipework in front of us.
Do I need to renovate the whole house to make it more accessible?
No, you do not need to renovate the whole house: it is enough to work on the route you use every day, from the entrance to the bedroom, bathroom and kitchen. If the hallway floor is replaced now, we set it level with the bathroom even if the bathroom comes later.
Do you work in Cunit and its urbanisations?
Yes, we work in Cunit, both in the town centre and in urbanisations such as Can Torrents, Els Jardins de Cunit and Plademar. Cunit is in Baix Penedès and we travel there from Vilafranca del Penedès. Tell us which urbanisation the house is in and whether there are steps from the street to the front door: that is the first thing we will look at.
